God and Government

Passage: Acts 4:1-20; Rom 13:1-7

For the last several weeks, the government has been telling us that we are under very extreme conditions that prevent us from meeting. Many other businesses and services were essential and remained open, but not the church. I have found this quite frustrating and disappointing.

These restrictions were in place until recently. Because of the WI Supreme Court ruling, many parts of the state are no longer under restrictions. Many businesses opened immediately after the SC decision, and it might be some time before the state formulates a new set of policies. It remains to be seen how the state government will respond to the SC ruling.

This brings up an important discussion regarding the rights and powers of the government and the rights and powers of the church. What does the Bible teach about these two often competing areas of responsibility?
