Most of us receive invitations occasionally. Someone is having a birthday party, someone is getting married, someone is graduating, and our friends call us to join in the celebration.

Generally, when we accept an invitation, it doesn’t make too much difference in our lives. If we attend an event or don’t, it’s not going to matter too much. But when Jesus calls us, our response will have a huge impact. Jesus calls us to radical discipleship, and if we follow him, it’s going to have a huge impact on our lives.

In the passage we’re looking at today, we find several different ways Jesus called people to come and follow him. Each one of these calls is a little bit different from the others, and each pertains to a different aspect of the Christian life. But in each one of these stories, we’ll see how following Jesus will have an immense impact on our lives.
