The Maniac of Gadara
“Conversion” is a good descriptive word to describe what happens at salvation. One is converted from one thing into another. There’s a complete change, a transformation, a remaking of someone into something different. Cf. 2 Cor 5:17
The same pattern should be evident in the life of every true convert. There are some outstanding characteristics of a true convert that should be readily noticeable in your life if you are a believer. We see this kind of transformation in our text.
Today I want to look at one of the most dramatic conversion stories contained in the Bible. The story of the Maniac of Gadara is an amazing example of conversion and its consequences. The patterns that we see in this man’s life should be evident in all converts.
This story shows us Jesus’ command over spiritual forces of darkness. The fact that Jesus can deliver a man like this from satanic forces shows that He is able to release anyone from the power of sin and Satan.
We’re not going to spend much time on the details of the story prior to his conversion. We’ll jump to the end of the story and notice several results of salvation/conversion. We’ll pay particular attention to vs. 35.
